Common Mistakes of Party Wear

Be it a family party or an official party, we should consider many factors in deciding what we are going to wear.  Occasion and frankness with the invited people at the party enable us to see what could be appropriate and what could be inappropriate attire for a party. We want to avoid is gussyingup in a way that makes the party host and guests uncomfortable.

No formal dressing

This is the biggest turn off for people at a party to see that a guest formally dressed up at the party.  Having a formally dressed person around will make most guests feel uncomfortably formal, which makes it hard for others to get into the partying mood. Instead, go casual in dressing for a party and be a part of the environment.

Do not show flesh

Showing too much skin at an official or a friend’s party is usually inappropriate. That does not mean that you can’t wear your favorite party dress, but you have to keep in mind that too much exposure of skin can be counter-productive.  For women, if a dress is frowned upon in your office, then it will most likely not be appropriate for a party with your co-workers.

Comfortable shoes

Most party-goers seem least bothered about the comfort their shoes provide and tend to look closer at the look and style of them. Certainly, if your shoes are not congruent with how you dress and personality, you may look out of place. However, the style must not come at the cost of your comfort, especially when the party lasts for hours, which may cause your feet unbearable pain and swelling for weeks after the party. Do not try newly purchased shoes at a party.  Break them in by wearing them for an hour or so every day before the party day. The more comfortable your feet are in shoes, the greater you will feel at the party.

Don’t be too casual

Going casual is necessary for most parties, but you don’t want to be too casual. Avoid wearing clothes that are too short or revealing, which could be quite acceptable at home but not at a party. For instance, wearing shorts is fine for men for a summer party, but the appropriate length of shorts must not be overlooked. Similarly, skirts are fine for women for garden parties, but the appropriate length can besomething to consider before opting for one. Usually, a skirt higher than two inches from the knees will raise many eyes at a party.

Wear the right perfume

While we may not realize it, it’s a fact that most of us do not pay attention to the selection of perfumewhen preparing for an occasion that we are going to attend. The rule of thumb is: it must not be overbearing and must be applied in moderation.  Understanding seasons and their effect on the fragrance you wear is also essential. Perfumes usually last longer in winter and shorter in the summer season. Floral and spicy fragrances are recommended for women for parties and aqua and wood-based perfumes for men.
