Polos

Polo shirts are popular the world over and are also known as golf shirts and tennis shirts. In fact, they started out as tennis shirts. They were first designed by René Lacoste, a seven time Grand Slam tennis champion, who felt that the existing tennis attire was not comfortable and too bulky. He first wore his new design in 1926 and began mass producing them in 1933 with his signature crocodile embroidered on the breast. Soon, other sports began to take notice of the tennis shirt. It was quickly adjusted and adopted by polo players. It may have been first adopted by golfers after a Lacoste shirt was worn by President Eisenhower for a golf game. The association with polo was furthered when Ralph Lauren began producing his own line of these versatile shirts and called it Polo. Eventually, the popularity of the polo shirt infiltrated all walks of life, from athletics to the office to general casual wear. Gotapparel.com provides both long sleeve and short sleeve polo shirt options from a variety of name brands at wholesale prices.

Polo shirts are a nice alternative to standard dress shirts as they are more comfortable and less stiff. With the collar, the polo shirt is not as informal as a t-shirt but is much less formal than a button down dress shirt. It, also, doesn’t require a tie for formality but can be worn as is. Polo shirts can be worn with a variety of other garments for work wear, athletic wear, and business wear.
