T-Shirts History
The
origin of the T-Shirt is not really known. Mysteriously, the T-shirt developed
in the 19th century as a form of underwear. Very uncertainly it is said that it
was a form of dress between 1913 and 1948 in California or Britain.
It has been stated by many researchers that T-shirt made its way to Britain after world war 1st when U.S. soldiers noticed the undershirts which were
being wearing by British soldiers under their uniforms.
During the World War II, the t-shirt became more popular and U.S. soldiers loved it so much. They wore the
t-shirt as an outfit with their pants and they felt very comfortable wearing
it. Although t-shirt was formally used to wear as an underwear but soldier used
it without shirt while doing work in a hot weather, just like their former
underwear. The T-shirt gradually became more acceptable when a soldier wearing
a t-shirt showed in life magazine shows on July 13, 1942.
After World War II the tee shirt started wearing by civilian. In 1948 “Thomas
E. Dewey”, who was the New York Governor that time, unveiled a t-shirt
"Dew It for Dewey". And In support of Dwight D that t-shirt was
followed by "I Like Ike" T-shirts in 1952. James Dean, John Wayne,
Eisenhower and Marlon Brando wore them on national television. People were
shocked at first time but by 1955 it had become acceptable.
